Four Fantastic Malaysian Destinations

With so much to offer in Asia, choosing where to go and what to see can be a tricky task. For many though the highlight of this part of the world has to be Malaysia, with its exotic landscapes, culture and history. This article takes a look at some of the country’s most famous sites and cities, to give you a feel for what’s on offer.

Kuala Lumpur

Starting with the capital city, Kuala Lumpur is a mostly modern affair; in many ways impressively so. The city is famed for its five star luxury and fantastic shopping but it also has a more traditional side, with local open street markets and small coffee houses. The main highlights of the city are located in an area known as the €Golden Triangle,’ although it is worth exploring further out to really experience this city at its best.

Langkawi

Located just off the north-western coast of the Malaysian peninsular is the island chain known as Langkawi. Made up of several small islands, this tropical retreat is perfect for anyone looking for a little natural beauty. The pristine beaches and clear blue waters make this a popular destination with honeymooners, and looking at the beauty of the surrounding landscape it’s easy to see why. The islands are also home to a wide variety of wild life, making this a great destination for animal lovers.

Pangkor Island

We have another costal island up next, the pretty little island of Pangkor; with its charming mix of fishing settlements and resorts. This is a great destination for those wanting to experience the more rural life in Malaysia, or just those looking to escape to an exclusive resort. The island is easy to reach, being just a short 40 minute boat ride from the Town of Lumut.

Sabah

Our last destination is the Malaysian state of Sabah, located on the island of Borneo; a destination that is synonymous with wildlife, five star resorts and eco tours. The dense jungle, surrounding the local towns and resorts, makes for a fantastic opportunity to head out on a safari to experience some of the most exotic wildlife that Malaysia has to offer. The region is famous for its local populations of orang-utans, which are best seen in the area around the Sepilok centre.

This is obviously just a small taste of all this brilliant country has to offer, there really is so much more to see and do.
