Fantastic St. Simons Island, Georgia, USA

St. Simons Island is not only the largest of the Golden Isles of Georgia, it is also regarded as one of the best beach towns in the United States. Its high stature can be attributed to its natural beauty, serene environment, charm and reasonable travel costs.

The island is situated across the Marshes of Glyn and is adorned with streets draped with oak trees. It is packed with several attractions that cater to a wide range of visitors. More than anything else, St. Simons is a beach destination. Its sandy shore is known for its tranquility and under-developed appearance. During low tide, the beaches on the island expand in width by a couple of yards, offering plenty of room to their eager guests. The East Beach is one of the more popular stretches that is perfect for swimming and body surfing.

This angling hub is located close to the pier, so you don’t have to go far to drop a line. Golf is also a very popular sport on the island as St. Simons offers three gold clubs and more than 200 holes for visitors to enjoy.

If your aim is to have a relaxing vacation, then take advantage of the island’s variety of spas and salons as well as its range of top class restaurants. The Pier Village is the go-to spot for tourists who want to shop, dine and be entertained. This social hub located at the south end of the island, is a great place to mingle with fellow travelers. You will also get an uninterrupted view of the sea while walking around the area.

Pier Village is home to Neptune Park, a recreational complex that has become a big hit among visiting families who enjoy activities like lounging in pools, picnic outings, and playing miniature golf. Redfern Village is another recreational complex situated in the middle of the island. Here, you can find plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. It is also known for its lively nightlife scene.

St. Simons Island also boasts historical sites that never fail to impress. Among them is the St. Simons Lighthouse, which was built in 1872 and is still working today. Another spot is Bloody Marsh Battle Site, the very grounds where the British and Scottish soldiers successfully protected colonial Georgia from the Spanish forces. Other must-see historical treasures include the Christ Church, Federica; and the Fort Frederica National Monument. As you head towards the southern end of the island, you will find the Maritime Center, housed in a preserved U.S. Coast Guard Station, and provides tourists great insights in the region’s maritime and military history.
