If you are looking for some great budget destinations in Europe, then I hope this article will serve to give you some useful and inspirational tips for your next travels. Europe is a fantastic place and in spite of being a fairly small size, it is full of diversity in one country is typically very different from the next. In fact, the amount of time you can spend travelling in Europe is basically indefinite if you want to get to see all the countries and larger cities.

Eastern European destinations still tend to be cheaper on average than Western European destinations and I have long preferred the former partly for this reason but also for the reason than that, at least until fairly recently, many Eastern European destinations were not quite so touristy and I’ve always preferred getting off the beaten track a little.

Here are some of my best recommendations;

Although an exception to the rule that Eastern Europe is generally less touristy than the west, Prague is in fact one of the busiest places in Europe. However, Prague is fantastic place to go and although it is a lot more expensive any use to be, it is still a bargain provided you know what you’re doing there and you avoid the rip off joints. Prague is also one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and there is plenty to do there are literally dozens of great day trips. If you are planning a trip to Europe, then you should definitely stick Prague on your itinerary since it is right in the centre of Europe and easy to get to by bus or train from most major European cities.

Another very enjoyable destination is Kraków, Poland. Although the most popular city in Poland these days, Kraków is still a very good addition to any itinerary across Europe. It is considerably cheaper than many other destinations still and also the budget flights go there. You can see plenty of sites and summer the most popular day trips include the concentration camp of Auschwitz and the Wieliczka Salt Mines.

If you’re looking to get more off the beaten track, then the city of Lviv in western Ukraine is definitely worth a visit. It is a little bit harder to get to than the other destinations, but happens to be the cheapest city that I’ve ever spent any time in. It is also extremely beautiful, full of culture and history and an interesting ethnic diversity.

Although tourism is rapidly growing in the area now, Transylvania in Romania is also a wonderful place to go. There you can see fairytale castles, beautiful countryside and quaint villages. Romania has long been one of my favourite destinations and you can literally spend weeks exploring the old Germanic towns of Sibiu, SighiÅYoara, BraÅYov and Cluj-Napoca.

Although certainly not as cheap as they use to be, the Baltic countries are also worth a visit. I would especially recommend Vilnius, Lithuania, as there is plenty to see into there and although it gets busy in the summer, it is nothing like to the same extent of the other Baltic capitals.
