Museums in Sydney
Museums are places, or organizations that display and exhibit a variety of artifacts and historical objects. They also serve as educational spots where people could take a glimpse of the olden times and how the ancient people had lived. In Sydney, Australia (which itself is regarded as a region whose history started in prehistoric times) one can find not just a single, but many historic museums where important items in history could be found. - The Museum of Sydney. This one is located at the corner of Phillip and Bridge Streets in Sydney. It is actually constructed right on the remains and ruins of a house that once belonged to Arthur Phillip, New South Wales’ first governor. This house was Australia’s first Government house built in 1788. The museum, built mainly as a part of the Governor Phillip Tower development, is being managed by the Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales. Aside from the rich history of the location, the museum also has many colonial as well as contemporary objects, pictures and modern digital images of Sydney. Across the building’s walls are Sydney pictures since 1788 up to the present.
- The Australian National Maritime Museum. This is a naval museum located at Darling Harbor in Sydney. This 1991-established museum operates as a constitutional authority of the Australian Government. Directed by Mary-Louise Williams, this museum exhibits include items illustrating the Australian Aborigines and Navigators, the long sea voyage of passengers, Australia’s working sea, the navy which protects Australia and many more including water crafts and boats.
- The Australian Museum was established in 1845, it is regarded as the oldest museum in Australia which was previously called Colonial Museum or Sydney Museum. It features different assemblies of items about vertebrate and invertebrate zoology, mineralogy, paleontology, and anthropology. The museum also takes part in aboriginal research and community programs.
- The Sydney Jewish Museum. This museum is located in the historic Maccabean Hall in Darlinghurst, NSW that showcases a general idea of the best and worst concepts and events in history. The three floors presents exhibitions, video presentations, newspaper clippings, pictures, narrations, letters and firsthand accounts about the Holocaust and it intends to educate visitors so that mass destruction will not be repeated.
