5 Top Attractions in Japan

If you are travelling to Japan, chances are it’s going to a once in a lifetime visit; you will want to see all the top spots in as little time as possible. Here are five things you must do and see while you’re there.

1) Mount Fuji: This is one of the most famous and most photographed sights in Japan. This attraction alone can make your trip worthwhile; the official climbing season is July and August. Don’t think you’ll be climbing alone – this is a hot spot for tourists and natives alike. It’s best to start in the early morning hours so you can reach the summit when the sun has fully risen. Climbing in the winter months (October – May) is strongly discouraged, due to inclement weather.

2) Imperial Palace: Located in Tokyo, this is the official residence of the Emperor, and is an impressive expanse of land, with unique buildings and ornamental gardens. It is a historical landmark, as it is located on the same grounds as Edo Castle, originally built in the 1800’s.

3) Geisha Show: These shows take place all over Japan, but some of the best are in Kyoto or Tokyo. These girls train hard to showcase their many talents. Dancing, musical instruments and art forms are all part of the show that you are not likely to soon forget. A Geisha show is as much a part of Japanese culture as Sushi.

4) Amusement Parks: Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea are just two great amusement parks to thrill the whole family. Take in the rides, attractions, parades, and of course see all of your favourite Disney characters.

5) Meiji Jingu Shrine: A trip to Japan is not complete without visiting at least one temple or shrine. This one is dedicated to the late Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shoken. It is one of the most popular attractions in Tokyo, and is surrounded by a forest that covers over 175 acres of land.

There is much to see and do in Japan, and it can be difficult to narrow down your itinerary; you’ll want to see and experience all the country has to offer. Talk to your travel agent and find out if any of these tours can be included as part of an all-inclusive package; if not, look online and see if you can find discounts or deals. Make sure you deal with a reputable online company and that any tickets you purchase are in fact, legitimate.
