A cruise holiday is often the trip of a lifetime. What people look for in a cruise can vary. Some people want to visit lots of ports and explore the local areas, while other people are more content to spend long periods of time at sea, enjoying the delights on board such as extravagant wining and dining along with dancing the night away in style.

A transatlantic cruise might suit this type of person. Cruise ships stop off at a few ports which are great to see some of the sights, but there is an extensive period when the ship is just sailing across the Atlantic Ocean. This type of cruise is the sort that my parents enjoy, they like the wining and dining, the casino, watching a theatre show and the ability to savour quality time together. The last time they went on a cruise holiday they even had dinner at the captains table!

They enjoyed ballroom dancing and socialising with like minded people, enjoyed beautiful sunsets while relaxing on deck and taking a stroll, all safe in the knowledge that they were miles away from the everyday routines of life. For them it is the actual time away from the everyday routines and the ability to do as little as they please in the middle of the ocean that is the main appeal. For them being in the middle of the ocean was the epitome of peace and tranquility, an escape from the everyday hustle and bustle.

For some people this type of cruise might be a little too sedate, although it is only as sedate as you want it to be. On many cruise ships there is a wide range of activities that you can take part in such as sports activities, theatre shows, disco’s, shopping and much more. There is also the excitement of exploring destinations such as The Azores, Amsterdam, Lisbon and Ponta Delgada.

If you don’t want to relax onboard a cruise ship for longer periods of time there are many other cruises that you can take. Some people like to cruise around the Caribbean or the Mediterranean or even take a completely different cruise such as an Alaskan cruise that offers the chance to see immense glaciers and fjords or even to go whale watching.

Whichever type of cruise you prefer there is a cruise holiday that will match your needs. Try one; it could be your holiday of a lifetime!
