Bukit Timah Nature Reserve – Wild Singapore at Its Best
Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is one of the most inviting forest regions in Singapore. Although it is located in a 410 acre area, which is considered to be a modest size for a nature reserve, a fascinating array of wild animals inhabit this lush and thriving habitat. The nature reserve itself is located near the Bukit Timah Hill which is the reason why it inherited the same name. As far as Singapore is concerned Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is one of the largest forest regions which draw in hundreds of tourists on a regular basis.
Visitors to the park will be immediately captivated by the greenery at the park which has been recognized as one of the most productive regions in the country with regard to plant life. Upon arrival you will be greeted by the liberating fragrance of fresh, clean air and the enchanting sound of the birds chirping away. The sheer diversity of the plant life that could be found here is remarkable and the scenes especially during the early hours of the day in nothing short of spectacular. Vines, palms, rattans, lianas and epiphytes can be found at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve along with a number of other majestic species which are common in rain forests.
Although several varieties of animals inhabit these parts, only few are spotted easily. This is mainly due to the increasing human activity in the region. Most of the mammals such as the colugo, the flying lemur, scaly anteater and pangolin have learned to lead a highly secretive existence. This sort of behavior in animals is common when they feel that their natural habitat is at risk and they focus on survival. However poaching and habitat loss is not a threat to the animals here as they are well protected by the environmental authorities.
