Halong Bay – An Awesome Place to Visit in Vietnam
Nothing is perfect, but nature is the perfect artist and one of its masterpieces is Halong Bay. Since 1994, the bay has been included in the list of World Heritage Site. It is not surprising though, the enormous sea, magnificent lakes and the spectacular landscapes will always be the ideal setting for a painter’s keen perspective.
Halong Bay – The Land of Karst
The most appreciated features of Bay that makes it stand out from others are its unique combination of limestone karst landscapes that has been sculptured by the powerful hands of the sea. As time pass, the repeated transgression and regression of the sea have eroded the limestone and transformed it into magnificent landscapes that are composed of clusters of isolated tower features and conical peaks.
The islands of this bay have been named according to their extraordinary shapes. Some of these islands are Voi Islet which has a resemblance of an elephant, Mai Nha Islet of a roof, and Gachoi of a fighting cock. These islands become the habitat of different species such as monkeys, iguanas, antelopes and bantams.
Halong Bay – A Home for Caves
One of the popular Vietnam attractions, are the enormous caves that dwell in the Islands of Halong Bay which will give you a memorable spelunking experience. One of the world-renown caves in the bay is Hang Ðầu Gá» which is known to be the biggest grotto of in the region. The cave has three major chambers that are filled with amazing stalagmites and stalactites that will fill your eyes with awe.
Another cave that is often included in the list of top Vietnam tourist’s spots is the Thien Cung grotto. Although a trip to the cave could be a risky one since both sides of it is covered by thick forests. However, many tourists take the risk due to the natural splendour that is made of stalactites and stalagmites that awaits them at Thien Cung Cave. Scenes of popular folklore and tales as well as characters such as dragons, fairies, snakes and elephants are portrayed on the eastern wall of the grotto.

Apart from the extraordinary mountains, sea and caves of Halong Bay, visitors and vacationers also visit the bay because of its delightful seafood. The sea of Halong bay is a sanctuary for 450 types of molluscs and 200 types of fish, which are served by the cruise ships and by local restaurants as well. You will be assured that the fish that is served on these restaurants are fresh since they are kept alive on fishing tanks and ready to be cooked. The fish are cooked in different ways. They are baked, steamed, fried or mixed with other ingredients to achieve a pleasurable taste.
