Taiwan – A Land With Rich Cultural Heritage

Most people view Taiwan as a heavily industrialized center, explaining why it is not one of the top tourist destinations. What these people fail to see in this independent province of China are the numerous tourist attractions including the rich cultural heritage and many other natural features. Taiwan is small in size measuring approximately 14,000 miles. The area is densely populated with approximately 23 million inhabitants. Taiwan’s population is highly concentrated in cities located along the western coastal plain leaving large tracts of undeveloped land. Besides the physical features, tourists get to enjoy the hospitality of the natives among many other fun activities.

Upon arrival to Taiwan tourists will view one of its magnificent attractions, the Jade Mountain. This mountain is commonly referred to as the Yu Shan and is known to be the highest mountain the East Asia. This explains why it is visible from all parts of Taiwan Island. Tourists and natives get to escape the heat and humidity by trekking to the beautiful mountain side while also enjoying the exotic scenery. There are eight major national parks in Taiwan and the mountain lies in the Taroko National park.

Despite the fact that Taiwan is an island it has no major famous beaches. There are only a few beaches scattered along the south coast. This however does not mean tourists cannot enjoy themselves on the few beaches available. Some of the best beaches of Taiwan are located in the Kenting National park. These beaches offer excellent dive spots as well as surfing area.

Visitors intending to enjoy the scenery in Taiwan need to visit the East coast. There are arrays of beautiful mountains that plunge directly into the sea offering a picturesque view. The East coast city of Yilan can easily be accessed by road by another famous attraction the Hsuehshan tunnel. This tunnel happens to be a fine piece of engineering and is among the longest tunnel roads in the world. This tunnel makes the rather difficult task of accessing the East coast via the mountainous terrain simpler and faster. Many tourists however prefer the longer routes by train which gives them the opportunity of observing the scenic countryside. Taiwan has some of the best transport infrastructure allowing easy access to all points of the island. The island boasts of the High speed rail system that has eased congestion when travelling to different parts of the island.

Beside the scenic views and the beaches, tourists can also enjoy the rich nightlife of Taiwan. Most of the food markets are highly crowded during the night as most Taiwanese shop for food. There are numerous street food vendors on most streets selling some local delicacies like the duck’s tongue. For those who find the local delicacies repulsive you can still enjoy other wonderful dishes like the oyster omelet. Famous markets to visit at night are the Shilin Market in Taipei, the Fengchia market in Taichung, and the liouhe market in Kaohsiung. Tourists also get to visit some of the famous temples and also participate in the festivals that occur annually.
