Things to Do in Adelaide, South Australia
Adelaide is the capital city of South Australia in Australia. It is centrally located about 8 kilometres from the nearest coast, Henley Beach and is about a 10 minute drive away from the city. It is also features a mix of historic and modern architecture with the Torrens River running along the banks of Elder Park just in front of the popular Adelaide Festival Centre where world class acts are enjoyed by enthusiastic audiences.
Adelaide boasts many tourist attractions for visitors to enjoy. North Terrace is the most obvious tourist precinct in Adelaide. North Terrace is on the northern side of a 1 square mile square surrounded by parklands. North Terrace has a world class art gallery and museum located on it. Close by is the Migration Museum on Kintore Avenue and the well known Rundle Mall, a shopping mall that is closed off to traffic and has major department stores, arcades and specialty shops. Further up North Terrace is the Botanical Gardens and the National Wine Centre complete with a wine museum on the top floor. All visitors are made to feel very welcome.
Glenelg is close to Henley Beach and is a lovely white sand beach that is accessed via a tram leaving regularly from the city for a very small fee. Ticket prices are very reasonable. In Glenelg you may want to visit the Bay Discovery Centre which is free of charge to enter. Glenelg beach has a jetty and restaurants with ocean views on the Esplanade. Glenelg is another exciting place to shop for gifts, clothes, souvenirs, etc.
Port Adelaide is another exciting place for tourists to visit. On offer is 2 hour boat cruises to hopefully see dolphins, markets on weekends, a maritime museum and just the topography of the area is interesting. Guided tours can be arranged through the local Visitor Information Centre.
