Must Visit Biarritz Tourist Attractions in France

Eglise St-Martin is an example of one of the few symbols of the port’s previous success. This church was constructed in the early eleven hundreds and was eventually restored in 1541 with a flamboyant Gothic style. The church is located in the centre of the city.

The Hotel du Palais was at one time the palace built by the empress, wife of Napoleon. Many of the British Royalty spent time vacationing here during the summers. Queen Hortense and her two daughters fell in love with this area and ordered the construction of this palace. At one time this building was referred to as the empress’s folly. Even if you do not stay at this hotel, you can visit the public rooms and enjoy the opulence of the palatial trappings.

Eglise Orthodoxe Russe was built in 1892 to give aristocrats a place to worship. This Byzantine-Russian landmark provided people with a place to enjoy caviar, prostitutes, and champagne. This building has a beautiful gilded dome that is painted the colour of a blue sunny sky.

Quai de la Grande Plage is a unique walkway that is located near the Hotel du Palais. You can walk this walkway in about three hours.

Place Ste-Eugenie is the grandest area of Biarritz. It is surrounded on one side by restaurants and the other side by places to meet socially. Below this area is the Port des Pecheurs is an area of fishing boats. You can enjoy the wooden house and shacks built in front of a cliff. It is a great place to see authentic lobster traps.

Musee de la Mer is a great place to see aquatic life that is stored in twenty-four aquariums. There is a show of the seals each day. Sharks can be seen and fed several times a week at this location. This attraction is a great place for children to learn more about the fish that are native to the sea nearby.

La Chapelle Imperiale is a prime example of the architecture that was popular with the Empress Eugenie. It was built in 1864 and has examples of the many different styles popular with the empress. It is a good example of Hispano, Moorish, Romanesque, and Byzantine styles.

The Asiatica Museum displays artwork from many artists in India, China, Nepal, and Tibel.
