Holiday travel starts by late November until the end of December and this is the busiest time of the year for air traveling. Aside from the fact that more people do travel during the holidays, the events of 9/11 has resulted to heavier airport security measures.
It will be to your best advantage if you can follow some holiday travel advice from the experts:
· Do not leave home without confirming your flight.
Contact your airline one day before your flight schedule to confirm your seat. Due to the holiday rush chances of overbooked flights are very common. So it is best if you can confirm that you are going to be accommodated for the flight. In case your flight is overbooked and you have to stay behind, make sure that you get compensated for the inconvenience.
· Review flight security measure and requirements.
It is best if you know all the rules and regulations being implemented at the airport security checkpoints. Try not to bring items that are highly prohibited. You will have to leave them behind anyway so it is best not to take chances.
· Arrive at the airport earlier than the usual.
As mentioned above, the 9/11 event has prompted airports to be more security conscious so checkpoints are going to be very thorough and it will take time before every passenger can go through the whole airport security process. If you are flying domestic, leave home at least three hours before the flight and fours hours if you are flying international.
· Keep your patience.
Increased level of security will surely irritate a lot of people; try not to be among them. Be patient and keep in mind that all the security measures being done are for the good of everybody.
· Keep your documents handy.
If you are traveling abroad, have your passport ready along with your flight ticket and identification. Airport security may ask you to show these documents several times so keep at your person at all times.
· Pack wisely
Keep your baggage light. If you have to bring a lot of stuff keep the items that you will not need on the flight on your check in baggage but keep your valuables in your carry-on.

It is always wise to plan ahead if you are traveling, more so if you are going to travel with children. Make sure they are travel ready by preparing them physically and emotionally. Tell them what to expect especially regarding the flight itself.
· Bring extra of everything
Bring extra foods and drinks. Let them take their favorites toys and gadgets to keep them occupied during long waiting hours. It can be boring enough for adults so much more for kids. For infants and toddlers, have their formula bottles and diapers in one carry-on so that you wouldn’t have to frantically search for them when needed.
