Minneapolis is a great place that everyone should visit at least once. If you have seen all of the basic attractions or if you live in Minneapolis and are looking for something different to do I have just the thing. Check out the Museum of Questionable Medical Devices. It is an attraction off of the beaten path that will if nothing else, give you some stories to tell. Read on and find out more about the museum.
The Museum of Questionable Medical Devices is run by a man named Bob McCoy. Bob McCoy is an expert on all sorts of medical oddities and insane devices. He has assembled the worlds largest collection of questionable medical devices. The museums collection is made up of both devices they own and those on loan from the American Medical Association, The Bakken Library, The St Louis Science Center and others. One of those devices is called the Battle Creek Vibratory Chair which would vibrate rapidly. It was painful to sit in but was said to cure headaches, back pain and was supposed to increase the supply of oxygen to the body. Another device is called the Shoe Fitting X-Ray Device. This machine would take an x-ray of the foot inside a shoe to get you a proper fit. Of course at the time of its invention the dangers of x-rays were not known. It wasn’t long before the device was banned in most states. This just scratches the surface of what is available to see at the museum. There are also blood letting devices, a foot operated breast enlarger, eye sight improvers and various other gadgets. The museum is quite an interesting collection of oddities which I am sure you will love.
