Perth Mint – Popular Perth Attractions

The Perth Mint is without doubt one of Western Australia’s most popular tourist attractions. Not only is it a very interesting place to visit due to the combination of exhibitions, activities and demonstrations but it also really allows visitors to experience the gold phenomena.

The Gold Buzz

There’s a world-wide curiosity about gold that has endured throughout human history. From investing to fashion, this precious metal has always been treasured and there are many stories of great sacrifice from people determined to strike it rich. The Perth Mint is one of the world’s foremost producers of gold bars, coins and other trinkets and has it’s fair share of stories, too. Fame and fortune, loss and sorrow.

What to See

The Perth Mint provides regular guided talks (every hour) that take you through the beautiful old building, the vault and original melting house. The talks provide an excellent insight into Western Australia’s gold history including the sagas, successes and hardships leading to the production of exquisite gold bars and coins. If you visit the Perth Mint, be sure to watch a gold pour where pure gold is heated and made into a pure gold bar. The melting house dates back to the 19th century.

Huge Gold Bars!

The World’s Largest Exhibition of Gold Bars is on display, including many from other parts of the world that have been beautifully crafted in many shapes and sizes. Also on display is Australia’s Largest Natural Nugget Collection, the biggest of which is the world’s second largest nugget Newmont’s Normandy Nugget (25.5 kilograms). Most of us can’t really imagine the hardship that early prospectors faced in outback Australia as they toiled in search of a lucky gold strike.

Buy some Gold

Be sure to look at the Historic Perth Mint Coin Exhibition for some truly historic pieces and don’t forget to find out how much your weight is worth in gold! And if gold makes you happy, then this is the place to buy gold coins, nuggets and jewellery. In fact, people from all over the world do so everyday.
