Popular Cities in Tasmania
Located on the south eastern side of Australia, Tasmania is the most rugged and mountainous part of Australia. It is well developed and there’s much more to Tasmania than just its flora and fauna. Launceston
Established in 1806 and named after Launceston in Cornwall in the England. Launceston is a lovely city in Tasmania. It is one of the oldest cities and is not heavy populated at all. The Cataract Gorge is the most visited Tasmanian attraction. It has the world’s largest single span chair lift that takes people from one end to another. You can enjoy adventure walks on the numerous walking trails here. You will also find many art houses, historic buildings, parks around every street and tree kissed streets. There are many mills in Launceston. You can still see a functional gunpowder mill from the 19th century! You can shop for some great antiques and eat to your heart’s content in the most popular restaurants in Australia.
Richmond
The village beckons in Richmond. It’s all country in Richmond which is only a 30 minute drive from Hobart. It is reminiscent of the free settlers from England and still has a lot of buildings, churches and bridges that mirror colonial style architecture and design. It is home to upcoming artists and sculptures. On the sides of the streets you will find stone cottages, something you don’t get to see in today’s day and age. Speaking of stone, you will also find Australia’s oldest bridge here that was built using sandstone.
Devonport
If you’re thinking of Devon in the United Kingdom, you are not mistaken. Devonport does take its name after its English counterpart. It a great place to start your Tasmania tour and the best way to get there is by ferry. They are fun because you can try your hand at blackjack, enjoy some good cocktails and food on board and reach Devonport in style! You will love the rock paintings in Devonport; they are part of the Tasmanian Aboriginal Art Centre located in the city.
