Western Australia Holiday Destinations – Why It’s Worth It
Sure, you may have a dozen places to choose from, but should you consider going to Western Australia instead?
WA is the largest state in all of Australia, and the second-largest country subdivision in the family.
Generally, the weather in Western Australia is great all year-round. Snow is rare, and rainfall only happens once in a while – giving tourists the opportunity to enjoy the sun as well as making the place a great winter escape.
Must See WA Holiday Destinations
The best thing about this state is that there’s a lot of Western Australia holiday destinations to choose from.
Purnululu National Park
This park will not earn a place in the National and World Heritage List for nothing. The Purnululu National Park is home to the Bungle Bungle Range, which is the most captivating and most unique range in the planet.
The entire area is 240,000 hectares big, and was used by indigenous people during the wet season when animal and plant life was abundant. The Bungle range was only discovered in 1983, making it one of the best kept secret in history!
Antony Gormley Sculptures
The Inside Australia exhibit created by world-renowned artist Antony Gormley is one of the biggest outdoor galleries in the world.
Marvel at the 51 individually cast black chromium steel sculptures standing against the backdrop of Lake Ballard’s white salt plain. The best time to visit is during the early morning or late afternoon, as the sun creates shadows, giving the statues a more dramatic effect. Always visit with someone and don’t forget to bring water as the sun can be very hot especially during the summer.
Kimberley Indigenous Art
Nothing spells A-u-s-t-r-a-l-i-a better than aboriginal art. Aboriginal art lets modern people take a glimpse of how ancient life used to be in Australia. It allows us to look back in history and marvel at how the indigenous people saw religion, and how they deal with economy, beliefs and their social activities.
Other Great WA Holiday Destinations
Possibly one of the best WA holiday destinations is what the locals call the Staircase to the Moon. Rather than a place, it’s actually a phenomenon which happens between March and October each year, and requires just the right conditions. When the full moon rises over the exposed mudflats of Roebuck Bay at extremely low tide, it creates an optical illusion of a staircase reaching the moon.
