Budget Accommodation in Australia

Australia is one of the most popular places for people to go traveling and with the great weather, friendly people and fantastic food, who wouldn’t want to visit Australia! However, it can be quite expensive to fly to, so you’ll need to find some cheap but comfortable accommodation when you’re there. I’ve put together a list of what I think are the top 3 hostels in Australia.

First is the Alfred Park Hostel which is located in the middle of Sydney on Cleveland Street and is only a short walk from Sydney Central Train Station and Bus Terminal. They are rated as a 3 star hostel and all the rooms and dorms contain a TV, fridge, wash basin and even air conditioning! They can also pick you up from the airport free of charge and arrange discounted day tours including diving and whale watching, so it’s a great place to start off your travels. The dorms start from $22 a night and the private rooms start from $59 per night (depending on whether you want an ensuite).

Second is the Melaleuca on Mitchell which is one of the liveliest hostels in Australia as it’s located in the center of Darwin among the pubs and the clubs. However, it has numerous facilities on site making it harder to venture out into Darwin including a leisure deck, 2 pools, pool table, big screen TV and a waterfall spa! Room prices start from $31 for a dorm and $95 for a private room depending on what time of year you book. This is the perfect place to stay if you’re starting to run out of traveling funds because the staff will even try and help you find a job in the local area.

Finally there’s Gilligans Backpackers Hotel & Resort which is located in the heart of Cairns city center, making it the ideal stop off point before you reach the Great Barrier Reef! Gilligan’s also provides some of the best evening entertainment including live sporting events shown on a large projector screen on the beer deck, Wet T-shirt and full monty competitions in the beer hall and dancing in the mezzanine club. A dorm room at Gilligan’s starts at $25 per night with a double 4 star hotel room starting at $130 per night.

If you want to find out more about traveling around Australia then all you need to do is to read some more travel guides. There are hundreds available that can help you book things in advance including numerous activities like surfing, diving and even having a tour round the set of Neighbours! Some people have even written guides on their gap year around Australia, which are very useful if you are planning to do the same thing.
