3 Great Sites to Visit in San Francisco
Of all the holiday destinations in the USA, California holidays tend to be the most popular and with the sheer variety this state has to offer it’s no wonder why. This article takes a look at one of California’s most famous cities, San Francisco, and lays out a few of the best attractions for those new to the city.
Coit Tower
Coit Tower is one of San Francisco’s most iconic buildings. This stunning tower, which many compare in shape to a fire hose nozzle, is set atop the historic Telegraph Hill in North Beach. A climb to the top will offer up some of the most impressive views of the surrounding city you can get, however many visit the tower for another reason. The Coit Tower is home to a number of beautiful murals, most of which are inspired by the social-realism style of the great Diego Rivera. A visit to see the towers fantastic murals is free for everyone, if you want the views however there is a small entrance fee.
Golden Gate Park
The second item on our list is the fantastic Golden Gate Park. When most people think of impressive US parks it’s usually New York’s Central Park that pops into their head, but it’s got nothing on Golden Gate Park. This enormous park is packed full of thousands of trees, beautiful greens and plenty of stunning walks. The eastern edge of the park is also home to two Victorian wonders, the fantastic carousel on Kezar Drive and the beautiful Victorian greenhouse. The western side of the park is home to a herd of bison, living in the open air at the Bison Paddock.
Presidio and the Golden Gate Bridge
Our final location is one that visitors to San Francisco shouldn’t miss, the famous Golden Gate Bridge and a trip to the Presidio. The bridge is widely regarded as an engineering marvel and is well known for its iconic looks and beautiful views from its decks. A short walk from the bridge is the fantastic Presidio. The Presidio has a long military history, being used to house Spanish and Mexican troops in the past before ending up as a U.S. military base. Today however it’s better known for the Presidio Social Club, a great location for a meal out, and its beautiful grounds, packed full of trees, flower beds and open green spaces; you’ll be hard pressed to find a more scenic spot in the city.
