Camping Holidays in the USA
Many tourists go from one theme park to another when they visit the USA. However, the country’s national parks are even more beautiful and exciting. Most of these have many, excellent camp sites, too, which are great places to spend the night during camping holidays in the USA. Here are some of them.
Bowman Lake Campground – Glacier National Park
Of the 13 campgrounds in the Glacier National Park in Montana, the Bowman Lake Campground is one of the most remote and one surrounded by the most beautiful scenery, comprised of tall trees, majestic mountains, and the serene Bowman lake just nearby, which makes it a good destination for your camping holidays in the USA. Swimming, fishing, kayaking and other activities are offered on the lake. Potable water is available, too, except during primitive camping season from September to May. Modern amenities are not offered, though, which is a good thing for those who want to genuinely experience the outdoors.
Blackwoods Campground – Acadia National Park
The Blackwoods Campground in Maine has over 300 individual campsites, while group campsites are also available by reservation, which can be made by phone or online. Each site includes a picnic table and a fire grate, while restrooms and showers are available nearby. Best of all, the campground is located just ten minutes away from the sea, where you can go swimming or simply enjoy some breathtaking views.
Mather Campground – Grand Canyon National Park
The Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona is one of the first national parks in the USA. It has several campgrounds, although the most popular is the Mather Campground on the South Rim. This campground is open all year round, and reservations for the summer season can be made up to six months in advance. A maximum of two vehicles, six people and three tents are allowed for each site, although group sites are also available. Pets are allowed, too, but must be leashed or placed in a kennel and attended at all times.
Moraine Park Campground – Rocky Mountain National Park
The Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado has five drive-in campgrounds, the most popular of which is the Moraine Park Campground on Bear Lake Road. This 245-site campground takes reservations from May to October but is first-come, first-serve for the rest of the year. There are no electric, water or sewer hook-ups, although restrooms, firewood and ice are available on site. Backcountry camping is available within the park, too, although a backcountry permit is needed. In fact, there are 200 backcountry campsites all over the park.
Grant Village – Yellowstone National Park
The Yellowstone National Park is the oldest national park not only in the USA but in the entire world and is also a favorite destination for tourists spending camping holidays in the USA. The Grant Village, located at the southwestern edge of Yellowstone Lake and named after President Ulysses Grant, is one of its most popular campgrounds, with over 400 individual sites that are open for reservation from June to September. While there are no utility hook-ups, stores, restaurants, showers and even a coin laundry can be found within half a mile.
Wawona Campground – Yosemite National Park
The Wawona campground is one of the 13 popular campgrounds in the Yosemite National Park. It has 93 individual campsites, along with two group sites and one horse site, each equipped with a picnic table, a fire ring and at least one food locker where food must be stored properly to keep the bears away. A small grocery, store, a dump station and shower facilities are located close by.
These are just some of the top campgrounds in the USA for you to choose from for your camping holidays in the USA. Even if you don’t decide to camp, try to visit as many of the US national parks as you can and you’ll surely end up with a more rewarding trip.
