Mellieha – A Dream Destination In Malta
Mellieha is amongst the most picturesque villages in the north of Malta. It lies on a hilltop between two fertile valleys. Unlike other towns in Malta, Mellieha enjoys stretches of open land, fields and beautiful countryside. It is also worth mentioning the spectacular panoramas of the countryside and the Mediterranean sea, with unobstructed views all the way up to the islands of Comino and Gozo. The village of Mellieha gives the impression of a guardian observing his belongings.
Mellieha is not just country side and beaches! It is much more than that. Mellieha has an amazing history since the early Neolithic temples (3000 B.C). Several megalithic remains and tombs of this era and other primitive tools and fragments of pottery were found in various localities around this area, primarily at “il-Latnija” – a natural cavity used by several stone-age peoples – and at l-Gholja tax-Xemxija.
Mellieha has also evolved as a popular tourist destination, besides being a quiet residential area to live in. In Mellieha you will find a number of hotels that excel in their service, quality and value for money. The majority of the Mellieha hotels are 4 Star or 5 Star hotels and you will find hotels of international chains like Rui, Radisson and Maritim.
Mellieha offers plenty of tourist attractions. In Mellieha you can find a number of beaches, the largest being Mellieha Bay. However, one cannot ignore Marfa Ridge with its small sandy beaches, ideal for peaceful walks.
Other points of interest which really should not be overlooked are Popeye Village, Anchor Bay, Armier and Selmun. At Selmun, there is the charming Selmun Palace which is not a real palace but a fortified villa constructed in the 18th century. Selmun Palace is next to a 4 Star hotel having enchanting views of the area.
From Mellieha you are only two bus stops away from the Gozo Channel car ferry terminal in Cirkewwa where you can go easily to the peaceful and amazing island of Gozo, the other sister island of Malta.
Boat trips to the small island of Kemmuna are available frequently and at a low cost from where you can enjoy a full day of sunbathing at the amazing bay of Blue Lagoon where the sea bed is just sand! If you do not want to enjoy the magnificent beach and sea, why not spend a day by the pool of the 4 Star Comino hotel while enjoying a good buffet lunch?
