Travel Advice

Travel insurance for domestic trips, justified.

When travelling internationally, one is very careful of getting the tickets booked on time, packing as per the weather of destination, opting for health insurance as well as travel insurance, and the list goes on. Do we take our domestic trips equally seriously? Many a times, a domestic trip is spontaneous, without much of prior planning. Since we are on the home-ground on Australia, we barely feel insecure or have passing thoughts of what could go wrong.

Whether we like it or not, the probability of something going wrong during your travel, cannot be ruled out completely. You do need a domestic travel insurance, to cover the expenses for that ‘something’ that could go wrong while you are out on a trip. A typical domestic travel insurance would cover:

  • Cost of lost luggage, theft, or damage to personal items in the luggage
  • Luggage delay expenses
  • Cancellation fees including re-scheduling due to unforeseen circumstances
  • Travel delays and accommodation expenses if the delay is more than a certain time period.
  • Personal liability
  • Rental vehicle excess for the rental car you would be driving in case of an accident or theft
  • Additional expenses for travel and accommodation due to your ill health

Many providers also provide multi-trip policy if you are making multiple trips across Australia within a 12 month period. Also, this option is comparatively cheaper than paying for domestic travel insurance each time you travel. Multi-trip policy would be the best option if you already have a schedule of work-trips, or foresee frequent family trips for next few months.

Before you sail out for that much important meeting with your client at the other end of the country, or quality time with family – you definitely need to sit, evaluate, and choose the best suitable from all travel insurance quotes. This would ensure that your trip is bother-free, hassle-free, and enjoyable at the same time.
