Chester is a city that is located in the Chesire city of England. This city is situated on the banks of River Dee and is located on very nearby to the borders with Wales. This city is one of the largest and most populous in the entire Chesire area.

One of the fascinating aspects of the city is the city walls that surround it. These walls were believed to be built around the time of renaissance. There are a number of buildings that are situated in this city which have a large influence of Roman style.
Cathedral:
This cathedral was earlier known as St. Werburgh’s Abbey and is made in the Norman style of architecture. The history of this cathedral is many centuries old and restoration works are being carried out from time to time. The canopies of this building are considered one of the finest in the country.
St John’s Church:
This is oldest church in the city and was built in around 11th century. This building is considered as one of the finest examples of the Norman Style of Architecture.
Grosvenor Museum:
It is one of the major museums of the city and is known for its collections of Roman artifacts and objects. There is a small art gallery also.
Transport Facilities in Chester:
Since the early times, canals were the main means of transport in this city. They were used to transport the raw materials like coal, gypsum etc. from one part to another. The Chester Canal has a lock system which runs on the principle of high and low tides.
Earlier this city was served by main railway stations out of which only one is used today. Chester General is a seven platform station where trains from Manchester and London arrive here. Besides this there are a number of other train services that operated from here.
