Best Winter Destinations in the United States
The United States is a country that has many attractive destinations even during the winter season. Some destinations offer plenty of winter activities such as skiing, ice skating, snowboarding, sledding, ice fishing, and snowmobiling. The US also has some very nice warmer winter destinations where you can still enjoy year-round activities such as surfing, swimming, sailing, and cycling. In fact, most southern coastal destinations offer plenty to do even in the winter months. When considering which areas to visit in order to experience the best winter related activities, make sure that you consider cost carefully. Some of the most popular destinations such as Aspen, Colorado can be quite expensive but you do get your money’s worth when it comes to activities, overall experience, and luxurious accommodations.
Winter wonderlands such as Grand Lake or Steamboat Springs, Colorado and Anchorage, Alaska are definitely worth considering if you wish to partake in winter outdoor activities such a skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, etc. The entire state of Colorado has tons to offer visitors in the wintertime but towns such as Grand Lake and Steamboat are quaint or small in size but they still have some of the best ski resorts, fine dining restaurants, and great fishing. The cost for lodging, food, and skiing in such smaller town is much less than in larger more popular destination such as Aspen plus they won’t be as crowded either.
Anchorage, Alaska has much to offer when it comes to cold weather activities including some of the best ice fishing available in the United States. Anchorage is also where Mt. McKinney, the tallest mountain in North America. The Chugach State Park, which is the third largest state park in the US, is located in Anchorage. The park contains around half a million acres with three campgrounds, cabins, and lots of wide open areas that are perfect for camping. The park is filled with endless beauty including some of the most breathtaking natural landscape and lots of wildlife as well.
If you are not up to bundling up and exploring cold climates, the USA has lots of warmer winter destinations that are worth visiting. The most logical destination is Florida where you can enjoy beautiful coastal beaches, visit attractions such as Disney World, Kennedy Space Center, Everglades, and the amazing Florida Keys. The weather in Florida is fairly mild in the winter so you can enjoy almost all outdoor activities but at much cheaper rates than during the warmer months of the year.
Other attractive locations to spend your winter months include Hawaii, San Diego, South Padre Island, Phoenix, and New Orleans have much to offer guests even in the coldest months of the year. Such locations offer great rates from November to March and most are quite inexpensive to explore. The United States is a great country to visit all year round but it sure is nice to know that even during the worst or harshest part of winter, you can still find areas where it is warmer and where you can still enjoy all those summer time outdoor activities.
